Melanie Lacy
Hello to all my faithful friends and supporters:
Thanks for stopping by to see my give page. Most of you know at this point that this past year did not exactly go as planned. Prior to my stroke, I had just begun to tell people about my plans to work in the Holy Land on a longer term basis. I have been working with Seeds of Hope for about six years on a short-term basis, but began to feel a calling to invest more time to increase the impact of what they are already doing so brilliantly.
While I will probably never fully know the reason (medical or spiritually) for this stroke, I do plan to use it for a purpose. As I was unable to walk or care for myself, having everything I “DO” stripped away from me, I really struggled with what my purpose could be beyond attaining superficial goals one after the other, all with minimal consequence or impact.
I began to realize how many people live without knowing their intrinsic worth or dignity. Stroke recovery has added a higher level of passion and a much clearer understanding towards my intended projects aimed at providing hope to both women and those thriving with a disability living in the Holy Land. Thank you for your support, both financially and through prayer. I am looking forward to starting this new journey.
Here is an overview of project ideas in the works for my time overseas:
- Nursing home consults (continuing to build on the current relationships built during my time with the short-term medical teams)
- Shine groups (these are the woman empowerment groups that aid women in finding their God -given worth and value and provide an opportunity for community with each other that is often missing in their culture)
- Home visit health check-ups for older/disabled people who can’t leave their homes
- Wheelchair donations and set up (I learned too much about that this year)
- Health Education presentations: child health, diabetes, hypertension, nutrition, dental hygiene, and exercise
- Disability home assessments through partnership with construction teams (this involves helping set up someone’s house to make it easier to live, which is more personal for me now)
- Mission team liaison (orienting teams to serve)
- Career planning with school and/or with disability access groups (sharing different career options and goal setting and planning)
- School nursing, including health education, school physicals, caring for sick children, and first aid training for teachers
If you would please consider a one time or, if possible, a monthly tax deductible, National Christian Fund Approved contribution to my international medical work, I'd be honored and so very grateful! I am aiming to have 20 people donate $100/month, but anything you're able to give is appreciated!
