Program Description

Are you a librarian or have experience working in a library? Would you like to put those skills to work on a global scale?

If so, learn more about our Library Consultant opening today!

Global Reach Libraries (GRL) is an IDEAS project and exists to see people in forgotten and overlooked communities grow in imagination and curiosity, expand their intellectual horizons, and find hope through access to quality information and transformational literature in well-developed libraries.  We reach this goal by providing expertise to library projects in these communities, so that librarians are equipped to develop imaginations, spark curiosity and plant seeds of hope.

Contemporary libraries impact their communities and their users in holistic ways:  intellectually, socially, spiritually and even physically through the provision of accurate, understandable, up-to-date resources. Many transformational projects, whether schools or community centers, include libraries as part of their services.

However, there is a vast difference between unorganized shelves of old, dingy donated books without anyone there to assist users, and a space with a well-curated collection, staffed by a trained librarian who loves their community and wants to help people grow in imagination and curiosity.  Global Reach Libraries personnel help set up libraries and come alongside staff who don't have library experience, helping them maximize the impact of their libraries.

GRL currently works with many libraries in Jordan, as well as helping plan an annual school librarians conference each year.  However, additional libraries in Jordan as well as in other countries have expressed interest in GRL services. We need more trained librarians with a heart to walk alongside local library staff and help develop library services that restore hope.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Library Consultant

  • Will learn about current GRL activities and learn current GRL methods and strategies.
  • Assist with current GRL clients, including training and mentoring librarians, helping to plan library networking and training activities and providing direct library service when needed. Examples of activities:
    • Helping to plan the annual Jordanian School Librarians Conference.
    • Assisting in organizing and cataloging developing libraries.
    • Answering questions and providing training for library staff members.
    • Following up on requests for GRL service.
    • Developing networking and community building activities among local librarians.
The eventual goal is for a new library consultant to either take over activities in Jordan and allow the current consultant to expand into another country or have the new consultant move to develop the library community in another country.
Qualifications
  • Preferred – Bachelors or Masters in Library Science or a related degree. In lieu of a degree, at least 1-2 years of school or public library experience at a professional level (i.e. not clerical)
  • Preferred – Some work experience with a diverse community
  • Life-long learner and flexible attitude
Program Costs

Customized budget will be created for you:
